(Big Book is 12” high by 18” wide, spiral bound at the top, with heavy cardboard easel back and laminated front page.)
The Alphabet Street Big Book has an easel back that allows you to glance at the lesson on the back while the children view the front. The lessons, designed for pre-kindergarten, introduce the letters A–Z and their sounds (long vowels only). The lessons consist of Beginning Exercises that review and reinforce previous lessons, the Alphabet Street Short Stories that make the pictures on the Wall Cards memorable, instructions for the Hand Motion for each sound, Follow-Up Exercises to lock in the new information just taught, and Connections that extend your phonics lessons and link them to other subjects.
[A CLASSROOM
SET of all Level A (Pre-K) materials is also available]
The kindergarten phonics program utilizes the Alphabet Street Big
Book when introducing new letters and sounds, but takes children
beyond the pre-K introduction given in the teacher guide portion of the Alphabet
Street Big Book. The lessons in the Alphabet Street Big
Book are similar to the lessons in the kindergarten Teacher’s
Guides 2–5, but are much less extensive.
