The Hobbit is the book that started the wondrous tales of Tolkien’s Middle-earth. Students will follow Bilbo Baggins, a humble hobbit and the tale’s unlikely hero, as he ventures outside his comfortable home in the Shire to embark on a mighty quest: recovering the lost treasure of the Dwarves now held by the evil dragon Smaug. Polaris Learning Curriculum introduces The Hobbit’s readers to folklore traditions of fantastic creatures, such as trolls, goblins, elves, and dragons from which Tolkien drew.
