Art Through Literature: The Visual Story traces the
beginning of written language and art. Could one exist without the
other? The 35,000-year-old drawings and paintings of Chauvet Cave
are studied as the beginning of the visual story, followed by
Egyptian hieroglyphics from The Book of the Dead. Full color
photographs of the art illustrate the reading selections. Kipling’s
How the First Letter Was Written,a humorous tale of Taffy, a
young Neolithic girl who writes the first letter which has
disastrous results for the poor Stranger-man who delivers it, is
included.
