This story puts African folktales, culture, and daily life in the context of a very modern African boy, Toumani, who has a lot to learn about friendship, hard work, and honesty. Toumani learns all three from the summer he spends on his uncle’s farm, and from the traditional folktales he is told. Toumani of Bamako and six African folktales, retold by Lisa Marsh, are included.
